Welcome to my blog about transcending the self. Instead of using the mind to fix or control your world so that you can be happy, there is another way. This blog is about moving your awareness from your limited, egoic-self to your Higher Self in order that you can be the divine expression that you were intended to be.

Many of my beliefs are based on the books "The Untethered Soul" (T.U.S.) by Michael Singer and "Falling into Grace" by Adyashanti. These books describe the path of moving your awareness from the part of you that tries to make your life work (ie, find happiness, security, love...) to the part of you that Witnesses or Watches your life unfold and your reactions to your life. As you become more aware of yourself as the Watcher, and you let go of the energies of the lower self, you will be moving towards greater freedom.

So instead of struggling to make everything go your way in life, why not accept what is (release the need to fix or control people, situations or your mind), open your heart and surrender to That Which Created Life in the first place! In other words, go with the flow of life and watch the amazing miracle that you are blossom! Please join me in choosing to move beyond the limitations of the personal self and to live a life of freedom.

To get the most out of this blog, I suggest that you read the books. I also recommend the CDs by Michael Singer (see the website below). I post on this blog about once a week. If you would like to be notified by email each time I post please send your email address to donnamccullough@cox.net.

letting go of my identity

If I really, really want to be free than I will have to let go of this identity that I have created.

"Remember your self-concept is just a collection of thoughts about yourself" (The Untethered Soul, p. 36).

That sense of self that I have spent 50 plus years developing, solidifying, protecting, improving, nurturing, criticizing is non-existent other than in my mind.   It is really hard to believe this.  It is hard to let go of the fact that I am not who I thought I was.

Inherent in this identity is a series of beliefs and expectations about what is right and wrong, good and bad, how things should be and shouldn't be...in order for me to be happy.  Holding onto this identity prevents me from responding to each moment with an open mind and heart.  It keeps me from accepting life as it unfolds.  It causes me to try to fit everything into my mental model and that results in struggle.

Who I really am sits beneath the surface of this self in a glowing field of light just waiting to radiate out through my being into the Universe and back again.

I choose to let go in each moment and bring my awareness back to the presence within...to the wholeness and radiance that I am.  In the moments where I cannot access this presence, I ask myself "Who Am I?" and I let go of the limited identity.

set the world free

When my ego gets hooked and I start to judge, or cling, or feel anxious... I remind myself to "set the world free" (a quote by Michael Singer which I heard on one of his CDs):

"You are you. You are not who I want you to be.  You shouldn't be who I want you to be.  I shouldn't have 'I want you to be...'"  (Michael Singer)

The world owes me nothing.

I am in this world but not of this world.

God is my Source, not the world.

I set the world free.

I return to the presence within which is always connected with my Source.

When I turn within and stop reacting to the world out of fear and need, I am guided by God to act in a way that is in the highest and best interest of all parties involved.

Thank you God.

And so it is.

Grace

A busy week for me with school beginning so I will simply post a quote from Adya:

"Grace is all around us, if we only have the eyes to see it.  The good moments are grace, the difficult moments are grace, the confusing moments are grace. When we can begin to open enough to realize that there is grace in every situation, in each person we meet, no matter how easy or difficult we perceive them to be, our hearts will flower and we'll be able to express the peace and the love that each of us has within us."  (falling into grace, p. 230)

Gandhi speaks...

Inspirational words from a pamphlet titled "Ghandi speaks... Selections from his writings"

"I can truthfully say that I am slow to see the blemishes of fellow beings, being myself full of them.  Therefore, being in need of their charity, I have learnt not to judge anyone harshly and to make allowances for defects that I may detect." (p. 6)

"I have no special revelation of God's will.  My firm belief is that He reveals Himself daily to every human being, but we shut our ears to the 'still small voice.'  We shut our eyes to the 'pillar of fire' in front of us.  I realize His Omnipresence." (p. 9)

Please join me in the intention to live with our hearts open to each other, and, our eyes and ears open to God.
