Welcome to my blog about transcending the self. Instead of using the mind to fix or control your world so that you can be happy, there is another way. This blog is about moving your awareness from your limited, egoic-self to your Higher Self in order that you can be the divine expression that you were intended to be.

Many of my beliefs are based on the books "The Untethered Soul" (T.U.S.) by Michael Singer and "Falling into Grace" by Adyashanti. These books describe the path of moving your awareness from the part of you that tries to make your life work (ie, find happiness, security, love...) to the part of you that Witnesses or Watches your life unfold and your reactions to your life. As you become more aware of yourself as the Watcher, and you let go of the energies of the lower self, you will be moving towards greater freedom.

So instead of struggling to make everything go your way in life, why not accept what is (release the need to fix or control people, situations or your mind), open your heart and surrender to That Which Created Life in the first place! In other words, go with the flow of life and watch the amazing miracle that you are blossom! Please join me in choosing to move beyond the limitations of the personal self and to live a life of freedom.

To get the most out of this blog, I suggest that you read the books. I also recommend the CDs by Michael Singer (see the website below). I post on this blog about once a week. If you would like to be notified by email each time I post please send your email address to donnamccullough@cox.net.

"practicing absolute sincerity"

Another foundation that Adya discusses is "practicing absolute sincerity" which includes honesty, genuineness, and integrity.

"To be sincere does not mean to be perfect.  In fact the very effort to be perfect is itself insincere, because it is a way of avoiding seeing yourself as you are right now.  To be able and willing to see yourself as you are, with all of your imperfections and illusions, requires genuine sincerity and courage.  If we are constantly trying to hide from ourselves, we will never be able to awaken from our illusion of self."  (The Way of Liberation, p. 6)

How easy it is to hide from oneself.  Sometimes this is very subtle such as when I deny feelings, judgments, and negative thoughts. Being defensive and closed instead of letting a vulnerable feeling surface is another way in which I avoid being genuine.  Efforts to please others or make them feel good can get in the way of my being sincere and genuine.  Or there are times when I have to face an aspect of my dark side which can be very uncomfortable.

"The capacity and willingness to be honest with yourself is your greatest guard against self-deception and deceit, and aligns you with your genuine aspiration.  There is no greater challenge for a human being than to be completely honest with oneself as well as with others, and yet such honesty is absolutely necessary if we are ever to awaken from our dream of separation and live a truly genuine and undivided life."  (The Way of Liberation, p.6)

Asking myself if I am being sincere in the moment grounds me...it brings my awareness into my body and reminds me to check in with my heart and my mind.  It makes me think about how I am behaving and what choices I am making.

We are all imperfect in our human ways, yet at our core we are made in the image and likeness of God.  Our Essence is perfect.  Adya is pointing us in the direction of being aware of the human imperfections...otherwise we will be busy hiding and therefore not able to open to Truth.  I no longer believe that being "spiritual" means being good or doing the right thing all of the time.  Being "spiritual" means noticing how I am showing up in my life.  It is about being honest with myself and others, letting go, and opening to a deeper and higher expression of Self.
